Colgan received 163 votes on the Independence League ticket and 48 votes on the Union Labor ticket in San Diego County. These are included in his statewide total.
Edward Colgan would die in office on November 20, 1906, after winning re-election but prior to start of his next term. A. B. Nye was appointed on November 23, 1906 to finish the unexpired term and then reappointed on January 7, 1907 for the new term. Nye served the entire term beginning in 1907.
